Preschool and Kindergarten students love to make music!

Studies show that music is beneficial to children’s development, and exploring music thru singing, instruments and movement is an exciting and fun way to learn! Curriculum is based on extensive survey and research related to developing those important neurological connections that are enhanced by music study.
 
The Preschool and Kindergarten offerings are designed to introduce music, not only in a way that is beneficial to a child’s development, but also to be an investment and firm foundation towards future music study.  

FAQ: How old should my child be for lessons?

Your child is ready for lessons when he/she:

  • Is at least 5 years old
  • Knows their colors
  • Knows their alphabet A - G
  • Can count to 4
  • Is able to use the restroom alone
  • Can be dropped off and be separate from their caregiver for the duration of the lesson.
  • Can follow simple instructions from an adult who is not the caregiver.

FAQ: What will my child learn? 

Students 6 and under typically learn from a program specifically developed for children in this age range. It uses a colorful, story-based approach that is filled with age-appropriate learning opportunities. As students progress, we continue incorporating fun activities for comprehensive instruction that introduces students to the piano as they learn proper technique, music theory and ear training skills, as well as begin to read music.

Lessons may include these activities:

  1. Explore and match pitch and song fragments
  2. Identify patterns 
  3. Rhythm and beat motions thru songs and rhymes
  4. Introduction to symbols, terminology, and fundamentals of music theory
  5. Improve listening and concentration
  6. Enhance gross motor skills while learning to beat and feel short rhythmic phrases
  7. Enhance fine motor skills while controlling hand and finger position
  8. Rhythm instruments to support basic rhythm concepts
  9. Learn differences in voice and body control
  10. Experience creativity through improvisation and storytelling

FAQ: What instruments are available for 5 year olds? 

Piano lessons and voice lessons are available for students starting at age 5. 

FAQ: IS THIS A PRIVATE LESSON OR CLASS? 

We offer private lessons. This allows children to develop musically at their own pace, with one-on-one attention from their teacher. 

Students at this age typically learn best when only they attend (no caregivers, friends, or siblings, please.) Instead, enjoy using this time to run a quick errand, or feel free to observe from the observation window outside the classroom. 
 

FAQ: Do i need a piano at home for Piano Lessons for Preschool and Kindergarten Students

Yes! An instrument will be needed a home to practice between lessons, but a simple keyboard will be fine! 

Just a few minutes per day at the instrument helps to reinforce everything learned in class.
